Number 1 Rule of adapting the Odyssey into EPIC is: if it can be more dramatic, it will be more dramatic.
The Greeks decide to throw the infant Trojan prince from the walls because they're scared he'll try to avenge his family? No, Zeus comes down to personally give Odysseus a vision of being killed and says his family WILL die. Kill the baby that reminds you of your son right now, it's the gods will.
Odysseus goes to greet the inhabitants of an island and gets trapped in a cave for two days by the cyclops that's eating his men one by one? Nope, we got BOSS BATTLE 30v1 in the Ithacans' favour until BAM fourteen pancakes are made by Polyphemus' club and oh shit Polites is DEAD-
Athena is just vaugely absent for the whole journey until the end? We got emotionally charged platonic breakups instead, with yelling and insults and "well I'm breaking up with you FIRST!"
Smooth sailing to Ithaca? STOOOORM-
Odysseus' great-great-great-grandfather giving him a speed boost to help him on his way home? Get ready for trickster wind gods, mischievous winions, and a game that was rigged from the start.
Random-ass suspicious and greedy crew mates open the bag? It's Eurylochus, his second in command, his brother-in-law, the man he trusted, Eurylochus WHYYY
Parking in the wrong harbour and getting boulders thrown at the fleet by angry man-eating giants while Odysseus backs away veeery slowly? Nah Poseidon himself pulls up to dunk on them, and Odysseus has to make a last minute getaway using the power of STOOORM to avoid being curbstomped like his fleet.
Odysseus gets some stronger drugs from a god to make him immune to the other drugs of a goddess? Well these drugs actually give him magic powers which he uses to engage in a Pokémon/Yu-Gi-Oh style BOSS BATTLE!
Get some closure with dead loved ones and acquaintances, and be the first interviewer of the fallen heroes of past ages? Nope, we just got TRAUMA and a whole boatload of guilt!
A neat outline of what the rest of the journey will look like, a warning against an island of cows that will slow him down, and the way to appease Poseidon? This Tiresias just says "Y'know there used to be a world where you made it home, BUT I DON'T SEE IT NO MORE. IT'S GONE. IT'S OVER. Also, your palace is fucked."
Sailing past the sirens while getting to be the first mortal to hear their song and live? M U R D E R
Sailing past Scylla to avoid Charybdis and accidentally getting six men eaten because he thought he could totally take Scylla, even though Circe said he couldn't, and then he realised he, in fact, cannot take Scylla? ... Eurylochus, light up six torches.
Eurylochus waits till Odysseus is out hunting and then goes behind his back to mutinously rally the crew and feast on some sacred cattle? Betrayal on both sides, stabby stab, K.O., and then Odysseus helplessly watches them make the greatest mistake of their lives as they ignore his pleas.
Quick clean and easy lightning-strike to the ship, leaving Odysseus to cling to some driftwood and paddle away? Zeus himself appears to the mortals, monologues, makes Odysseus be the one to choose, and then smites the whole ship leaving Odysseus to nearly drown anyway.
Telemachus gets advice from a disguised Athena to yell at the suitors and then sail away to look for news of his missing father? Telemachus gets into a full on beatdown with the suitors and gets FIGHT CLUB TRAINING from Athena!
Athena goes "dad I want my favourite mortal back? Did you forget about him? I think you forgot about him" and Zeus instantly replies "nonsense. How could I have forgotten that funny little mortal? Of course you can have him back my sweet favoured child <3" and then Athena skips off to Ithaca? "Father please-" "LIGHTNING BOLT! ANOTHER LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT TO THE FACE HOW DARE YOU ASK ME OF SUCH A THING!"
Poseidon does a double take "wait they let him go?? Oh hell nah!" and then sends a giant fuck off storm for Odysseus to swim through until he reaches the Phaeacians? No, Poseidon's just been there on Ithaca's shores, waiting for eight years, now get in the water BITCH- except Odysseus is just like "oh yeah? Fucking FIGHT ME"
You thought the suitors in the Odyssey were bad? Jorge really just said "dial that shit up to ELEVEN"

My sister pointed out that Eurylochus was in a no win situation and was pretty much forced to open the wind bag because he's the second in command.
the tldr of it is, because of how things were during the time period Epic takes place, Eurylochus's job is to manage the crew and ensure their health and safety. Odysseus's job is to be the boss, but Eurylochus actually is the one who is fully responsible for the crew. He's the one the crew go to with complaints, and it's his job to ensure everyone eats and gets paid. And if the crew chooses mutiny, he has to either join them, or die beside his captain. Which is why he constantly second guesses and question's Odysseus's choices. It's basically his job.
Meaning that, if Odysseus was right about being able to work with the gods like he claimed in Luck Runs Out, and Aeolus gave him treasure like the god's personal winions claimed, Odysseus would be obligated to share it with the crew upon return to Ithaca. But with the way he's behaving, it looks like he's hoarding spoils of their efforts. Meaning Eurylochus needs to open the bag to see if it is treasure, and then make choices accordingly.
Basically, Eurylochus was doomed from the start because he was the union rep.

Things that happened in Epic: The Musical that differs from the Odyssey
Okay so spoilers for both obviously you have been warned. In addition, I dont remember everything so feel free to correct me or add smth you noticed!
Polites (Odyssey) dies bc of Scylla or Zeus’ bolt, not Polyphemus. He is in fact one of the men who gets turned into pigs.
Eurylochos (Odyssey) actually fucks things up—like a lot. He opens the wind bag and it was his idea to kill Helios’ sacred cattle. There might be other things but I cant remember.
Posidon never confronts Odysseus he just kinda messes with them but it’s not that direct. What occurs instead is a bunch of men die bc they literally went to the land of the giants (i cant spell their proper name so, canadians—get the ref?? Also, the giants couldve been norwegians. Confused? So am i)
Both winions don’t exist the lotus eaters are just ppl that are high asf
Also about Open Arms, instead of what happened there a bumch of Odysseus’ men got high and he had to drag them out
Songs 21 and 22
The distance between Troy and Ithaca is roughly 644 miles or 560 nautical miles, not 600 but I get why Jorge chose 600 i mean “644 miles of open sea” is a mouthfull
They stay at Circe’s island for a year, not like however long they did in Epic
Odysseus is CLEARLY faithful to Penelope in Epic. I say clearly bc Homer doesn’t know what r4pe is so it doesn’t help us (in the Odyssey, consemt w/ Circe was questionable depending on whos translation you’re reading and theres the telegony but Calypso was r4pe no doubt abt that)
In the Odyssey, Odysseus actually talks to the dead (his mom, Achilles, Agamemnon, Patroclus…) but in Epic they cant see him
That’s all i can remember rn and we still gotta wait for the Thunder Saga. All in all, Jorge did a good job adapting the Odyssey. I mean what’s fun abt the mythos is that it changes. I actually enjoy changes with the myths. However, like Mr Jalapeño himself said, “The Odyssey is cool expecially if youre in school.” DONT SUBSITUTE EPIC FOR THR ACTUALLY THING OKAY

it’s me again and i’m here to rant about how people hating on eurylochus again.
the WHOLE POINT of the test of the wind bag is that the crew’s trust of odysseus has been shaken since polyphemus. they fully trusted him prior but after he led to the deaths of several of the crew members and then let the cyclops live, they’re not sure how they feel anymore.
and odysseus wasn’t going to tell them what was in the bag. but the winions gave them an answer, even if it wasn’t a true one.
eurylochus wants to get home to ithaca just as badly as odysseus but he wants to do so without the risks odysseus takes! and his concerns were just shut down and now odysseus may be lying to him (and don’t try to argue that odysseus would never lie to eurylochus, he is literally famous for lying to reach the goals he’s after) and his trust is shaken and he…makes a mistake.
should he have opened the bag? ofc not, but the deaths of those men is not solely his fault, they’re primarily odysseus’s fault for revealing his name and address to polyphemus after refusing to kill him. if he’d either killed him or kept his mouth shut, poseidon wouldn’t be after him and none of those men would’ve died to him.
and with regards to circe, the difference between him wanting to leave those men and odysseus sacrificing six men to scylla is that eurylochus didn’t know if those men could be saved! he likely actively believed they could not since neither him nor odysseus know magic and why should he believe odysseus could change her mind when the last couple of times odysseus has tried to change people’s minds, it’s lead to 557 men dying?
eurylochus isn’t innocent and everything isn’t odysseus’s fault but the opposite is also true and the demonization of eurylochus and woobification of odysseus is actually starting to drive me mad

Hi I am very new to the Epic fandom and I'm curious to know what all the big ships are (if there are any. Tbh I've had enough of shipping wars for a while), or if there's anything else I need to know for interacting in the fandom space
okay phew this is gonna be a lot and i have enlisted my EPIC friends to make this is accurate i can. first off nicknames we use a lot. Eurylochus us Eury, Odysseus is Ody, Perimedes is often called Peri of course Penelope is often called Pen. you might see mention of Diomedes which is based more in the original Illiad which we call Dio. hmm think thats about all now onto ships
odypen (Odysseus x Penelope) ofc self explanatory applies to both EPIC and original sources
eurymene (Eurylochus x Ctimene) they are not mentioned in EPIC but yeah Ctimene is also Ody sister making Eury and Ody brothers in law
diodypen (Diomedes x Odysseus x Penelope) based more on the original source of The Odyssey/Illiad but will be mentioned in EPIC communities
odydio (Odysseus x Diomedes) again based more on original source but could be mentioned
telestratus (Telemachus x Peseistratus) again based on original source but will be mentioned at times
odypoli (Odysseus x Polites) EPIC based one of my personal favorites and a pretty popular ship not much else to say Perenor, Perinorpoli, Peripoli, ect (Perimedes x Elpenor, Perimedes x Elpenor x Polites, Perimedes x Polites) basically any combination of these three is a ship. this is caused by some cut song snippets Jorge has shared specifically Cope with That and a mention that originally Polites x Perimedes were supposed to be a thing
antimachus (Telemachus x Antinous) This is a toxic ship when it comes to EPIC cannon
Another big fandom thing that isnt really everybody cup of tea is something called the Manwore AU started by Anniflamma a big animator/artist within EPIC were basically Ody sleeps with everyone as a way to make it through his journey. I will mention that Ody does NOT cheat on Penelope in either EPIC or the original sources.
Polites Eury and Ody are childhood friends
people will often mention pancakes and Polites together that is from the Cyclops saga.
One of the problems in the fandom is a lot of people bashing Eury for his actions i personally dont like bashing characters since i believe every character made mistakes and messed up so no one character deserves to be blamed but you can form your own opinions on this.
Fans of EPIC are called winions which is short for wind minions shown in the Ocean Saga and is often related to the Lotus eater creatures
Big artists/animators for EPIC include Gigi, Aniflamma, Mircsy (prounounced merchy), Gwendy, Wolfythewitch, and a newer one called Neal
Playlist of EPIC animatics/animations in order (Vengeance saga is the livestream since its so new and not all the songs have animations yet)
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGNbMhyzUajd-DZadE_QzvBwpYr2J8_J2&si=nXBZSJQPXBnW-DnF
overall this community is actually one of the better to exist and for the most part except for a minority everyone is open and supportive so feel free to share your thoughts and creations. We have a ton of very creative and talented people and we welcome you to the EPIC community UwU

My Thoughts On the Vengence Saga 🔱🩸
HOLY SHIT ODYSSEUS MY GOD, BRO DID NOT HOLD BACK. The saga started with I'm not sorry for loving and it was sad on Calpyso's part (WANGUI COOKED SHE ABSOLUTELY COOKED) but I'm really glad Jorge didn't have Odysseus accept her "apology" because what she did even though she tries to justify it, it was 100% wrong AND THEN HERMES SHOWED UP AND WE GET REFERENCES TO THE TROY SAGA, OCEAN SAGA AND CIRCE SAGA. AND I LOVE THE "IF YOU DANCE WITH FATE THEN I KNOW YOU'LL ENHANCE YOUR STATE" LINE. I LOVE HOW MANY THINGS GET PERSONIFIED IN JORGE'S MUSIC LIKE PRIDE AND DANGER FEEL AS IF THEY'VE ACTUALLY COME TO LIFE. ALSO, THE FACT THAT JORGE'S SISTER VOICES THE PRINCESS WINION IS SO FUNNY TO ME, LIKE WE HAVE THE WHOLE FAMILY NOW. BUT DANGEROUS IS A BANGER LIKE I KNEW IT WOULD, ALL HERMES SONGS MAKE ME WANT TO DANCE. THE WINDBAG MAKES A SECOND APPEARANCE SO WE ALREADY KNOW THAT IS GONNA HAVE SOME SIGNIFICANCE. ALSO, ODYSSEUS IS GONNA USE RUTHLESSNESS FOR SURE. I ALSO LIKE THE "DON'T THANK ME FRIEND, I'M NOT THE ONE WHO FOUGHT FOR YOU" and Odysseus is like who then?? I was kinda hoping that Athena would show back up and it would be this whole big moment but she didn't :( RIP. Charybdis is REALLY COOL it was different from what I expected and I'm pretty sure it's Jorge's only entirely solo song In the show which is really cool. I also LOVE that right before Odysseus explains he doesn't have to fight Charybidis we get an electric guitar rift to show that he's using his intelligence. AT THE END HE SEES ITHACA AND HE'S ALMOST HOME AFTER ALL THESE YEARS AND THE MUSIC IS SO SOFT COMPARED TO EARLIER IN THE SONG. But... POSEIDON SHOWS UP. IM ANNOYED FROM A SHOW PERSPECTIVE BECAUSE JUST LET THE POOR MAN GET HOME BUT STEVEN IS ALSO SO TALENTED. HE WENT BEAST MODE FOR GET IN THE WATER. I like how intentional Poseidon's threat of "I'll take your son and gouge his eyes" to give an eye-for-an-eye deal to harm Telemachus as Odysseus did to Polyphemus. I also love Odysseus really does use all his tricks because he tries to show Poseidon to forgive and almost "Greet the world with open arms" but when Poseidon ignores him, he goes F* it. Then Poseidon uses his final boss move "OCEAN SHATTER" and Odysseus gets weighed down in the water by everyone who has died because of him in someway. But what I find heartbreaking is instead of singing their own motifs or "final thoughts" they all sing Waiting and his name until something clicks in his mind. ODYSSEUS GRABS THE WIND BAG AND OPENS IT WITH GLOWING RED EYES DESPITE KNOWING THAT IT WILL BLOCK HIS ONLY WAY HOME. HE USES IT AS A JETPACK AND STRIKES POSEIDON WITH HIS BOSS MOVE "600 HUNDRED MAN STRIKE" JORGE DID SUCH A GOOD VOCALLY TO SHOW HOW ANGRY AND SURE OF HIMSELF ODYSSEUS IS. ALSO WHEN HE'S ATTACKING IT SOUNDS LIKE LEGENDARY AND I THINK IT MIGHT BE BECAUSE HE'S CLOSE TO HOME SO HE'S MORE SIMILAR TO HIS SON. ALSO, THE VOICES OF THE CREW IN THE BACKGROUND IS JUST AHHHH. ALSO, I LOVE THAT WE CAN HEAR THE WND BAG MUSIC AND THE STORM MUSIC AS THE BATTLE IS GOING ON. Then Poseidon proceeds to taunt Odysseus by the fact he released the storm because now Poseidon can kill him and there's no way for him to get home. ODYSSEUS GOES APESHIT, or rather VERY CALM. We hear the danger motif as Odysseus walks toward Poseidon and Posiedon says "You can't kill me" and Odysseus says "Exactly" HE PICKS UP POSEDON'S TRIDENT AND STABS HIM OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER TO THE POINT WHERE POSEIDON IS BEGGING HIM TO STOP. but Odysseus has a Ruthlessness is mercy mentality and doesn't stop even as Poseidon, god of the seas, is calling him a MONSTER. AND THE CRAZIEST PART IS Poseidon relents the storm and asks "How will you sleep night?" and Odysseus goes "Next to my wife" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LIKE LINE IS SO ACTUALLY INSANE LIKE THIS SAGA WAS AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER AND ODYSSEUS HAS TRULY STOPPED CARING ALSO, EVERYONE'S VOCALS WERE OFF THE CHARTS AND IM GOING TO BE OBSESSING ABOUT THIS FOR THE COMING WEEKS. As usual, thank you to the entire Epic Crew and everyone behind the scenes for making these sagas, they are awesome.

Question for epic the musical community. I know there’s a lot of discourse regarding who was more at fault in the Eurylochus vs Odysseus, but the main point I’m most conflicted on is.
Would not opening the bag have saved them from Poseidon?
We know the big reason for the storm was that it was Poseidon pulling them further away from Ithaca or at the very least messing with them before their confrontation. Jorge even mentioned that you can hear some of Storm’s theme in Ruthlessness showing that he was the cause of it
When Ody goes up to Aeolus in ‘Keep your friends close’ they make the deal that if he can keep the bag closed they will get home. And the assumption we as an audience are operating under is that if Odysseus makes it home he will escape Poseidon’s wrath. However, do we know that would actually happen? Aeolus promises that “you will get what you’re yearning” but how do we know they’re not using genie logic here? Who’s to say that yes he will get home and see his family….right up until the point Poseidon comes. He could very well be speed running to ‘Get in the Water’ and be forced to choose his life or his family and kingdom.
We even see within the song that Aeolus cannot be trusted. After all one of the winions ends up interfering with the deal by planting the idea of ‘its treasure’ in their heads to sow discord amongst them. @anarchy-lives-eternal even points out how there can be a double meaning to the line ‘i give the fire enough to stay burning’. Wind helps fan the flames and similarly they are stoking the flames of distrust within the crew.
It’s the whole point to Eurylochus being wary of making contact with the gods because they are such fickle creatures. They don’t care about them in a meaningful sense, they are pets or pawns at best. Their sufferings are entertainment, “games” for them to play at. To keep alive so their favorite show will continue.
I don’t want to place the blame solely on Odysseus here, it’s a complication situation. But too much is being lain at the feet of Eurylochus. The whole point of these stories is the tragedy of human error in messing with such larger than life forces. They love and care for each other but it is continually tested throughout and ultimately they became weak to their greatest faults.

All my thoughts from the livestream the end of vengeance saga was a religious experience
Cabbage🥬
“Time to learn how to make pancakes” great! Will do! 🥲
Remember them has one of my favorite animatics hands down
Jay fangirling over the other voice actors is the cutest thing
He’s so out of sync I have no idea what he’s saying but I’m enjoying it anyway (it’s the enthusiasm that counts)
“babe wake up new wind bag just opened”
The way I squealed at wouldn’t you like
Jay just keeps gushing over Talya that is some Odysseus level puppy dog behavior
140,000 people in this stream that is wild (he deserves it???)
Elpenor???
Polities🥲
🦉🦉🦉
the animatic for Scylla is absolutely horrifying and I love it
he's right mutiny is one of the saddest songs to me
Thunderbringer gets the hype bc it deserves the hype (Luke kills it every time???)
Vengance saga here we go!!!!!
That was so sad but Gigi absolutely killed it the art was amazing
Dangerous??? I thought I would love it and I was so right 11/10 (the winion for his sister was so cute)
I think my soul left my body when he said coward
Im speechless i'm actually speechless that was so??? what just happened???
hold on i need to process this-

Question .. heard that you like Epic the Musical. Have you listened to the Vengeance Saga yet, and if so, what are your thoughts on it? I'm curious .. smiles
I have listened it and even watch the stream
HOO BOY WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?? I KNOW THE VENGENCE SAGA IS GOING TO BE MINDBLOWING AND I THOUGHT I WAS PREPARE BUT JORGE ALWAYS PROVE ME WRONG
ok spoiler free thoughts! Everyone did such an amazing job like always! Jorge really wasnt kidding when he said this saga is gonna have those video game feels to it. SPEAKING OF FEELS HE HIT IT AGAIN WITH THAT ACCURATELY. Probably not as hard as the last one but still, hit with those feels a lil. Im still a bit of mix feelings with Calypso, but I definitely feel bad. Sorry girl but he's taken. The rollercoaster of emotions I when, the callbacks and all those familiar motifs was a ride indeed. Charybdis and Dangerous is the one I was looking forward the most and Jorge did not miss. I'm so gonna listen to it on repeat
-- ok now for the spoilers --
again, WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN?? Jorge reallly went forward and beyond with his performance here, especially in six hundred strike, like godamn that screams!! six hundreds strikes for each of his six hundred men that has die. I got chills when the souls start singing "waiting" in unison like damn. literal chills omg.
I actually did not expected for the wind bag to return (not sure if that is a thing in the original odyssey story) but I'm so glad it did, get to hear the silly winions again. I can feel the dread and fear when they say he wont make him after the wind bag is open, then when back to jamming. (also the "I'm not the one who fought for you" im not ok. Athennaaaaaa 😭😭😭)
Just hermes dancing and breaking it down while Oddysues is struggling fighting monsters are such a mood. I love u hermes dont change aendkjdn
oh and that ending... bro that ending.. out of all the things I could have imagine for it went, THAT IS DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF THEM. LIKE I THOUGHT ONE OF THE GODS IS GONNA INTERFER OR HAS ANOTHER TRICK BUT NO. HE STRAIGHT UP STAB POSEIDON WITH HIS OWN TRIDENT TILL HE CALL OFF THE STORM. HE USED THE FACT POSEIDON CANT DIE TO RELEASE HIS ANGER, EACH STRIKES WITH A PAINED SCREAM OMG. Im speechless. but at the same time KARMA!!
Odysseus literally ask for forgiveness and mercy but noooooo you just have to be full of yourself. "You.. Monster!!" bish look who's talking ur the one who cause this monster
oh at the "how will you sleep at night" "next to my wife" dang thats cold. I got no words
i think that's all I wanna say abt the new saga. when I say this ask I knew Im gonna do a full on rant lol. sorry not sorry crescent but also you probably wanted this anyway wdknqwkd

finally watched the vengeance saga and i am being so, so normal about this. spoiler rambles below the cut. i watched a bunch of different animatics for most of the songs so there will be comments about both the actual songs & official animatics, plus the other fan animatics i saw
not sorry for loving you
first off. CALYPSO. MY GIRL. i'm so glad jorge did her right with this song. i remember adoring calypso in the odyssey, and while epic definitely put her in a more manipulative and antagonistic role than i remember her having, she has a reason. i felt like love in paradise kind of rushed her entire character and i'm so glad she got fleshed out more here.
while she is being manipulative, i definitely don't agree with the people saying she's doing it on purpose. she's been alone for a hundred years, of course she'd be lonely. also like. she's literally never known any other people to know whether she's being manipulative or not, so
also i watched the most animatics for this one and calypso being skinny feels so weird to me, she's at least chubby imo
also extremely funny that jorge got gigi to animate for this one for the stream. gigi being known for having the best circe saga animatics and jorge is like "hm you know who i want to animate this other woman who's manipulating odysseus?" incredible.
and there's this which i said to my bf:
Tumblr media
dangerous
"six hundred men, six hundred dead under my command, 'cause i had one goal in mind... [silence]" OKAY YEAH I DIDN'T NEED MY HEART. FUCK.
HERMES IS BACK, BABY!
ximena natzel has the best hermes animatics, the official hermes is good but ximena's is better, if you haven't seen ximena's animatics for "wouldn't you like" and "dangerous" go watch them NOW
they canonized the fluffy winions, i'm not even sure who first came up with that design for them (mircsy was the first one i saw) but they're wonderful and amazing
hermes is just amazing and all of his songs are amazing and this is amazing (can you tell i have a favorite song from vengeance saga)
i love that they also included actual sirens in the official animatic!! the birds with women's faces, those are what sirens actually look like in the myths and mermaid-sirens are more common to see nowadays but it's not The Og, and i'm so so happy they used og sirens (this made me giddy in the same way all the "ruthlessness" animatics with horses in them made me giddy, little-known myth details my beloved)
the callbacks to "keep your friends close"! both musically and lyrically! and the callback to "wouldn't you like" with hermes going "don't thank me" and "good luck!" jorge is always on point with the callbacks
charybdis
took a couple listens for me to really vibe with this, it's kinda filler but that's fine they can't all be bangers
someone pointed out this is the only song we have so far that's 100% solo odysseus with no background vocals or other characters so that's neat
feels like this could've been longer? or fleshed out more? it feels kinda abrupt. but there's gotta be some losers they can't all be winners
get in the water
i need to hear this sung by a woman right now actually so i can be equally bisexual about the original and a female cover.
honestly i don't think i had a single thought in my head through the entire song besides damn. holy SHIT. holy shit this one is good. this is so fucking good.
i lied i had a singular coherent thought (on the second watch): it's subtle, but i think there's a musical callback to the end of "god games" during odysseus's part. when he's begging poseidon to let him go, the music is really similar to when athena begs zeus to let him go at the end of "god games."
six hundred strike
hoooooooly shit. oh my god. what the fuck. not to be bisexual but -
(hottest odysseus has ever been)
he has the power of (the wind) god and anime on his side
with the power of friendship and this jetpack he found -
the callbacks
"you can't kill me." "exactly." HOTTEST ODYSSEUS HAS EVER BEEN
NEXT TO MY WIFE
oh my god. holy fuck. oh my god
anyway this has been rey's (lack of) thoughts about the vengeance saga thanks for joining me i'm so, so normal about this musical

Oh thank god I thought I was the only one.
I remember watching Tumblr live reacting to Thunder Saga and the days following and just....the level of anger and hatred towards Eurylochus was getting so uncomfortable. Especially when you actually stop and consider his situation.
Imagine you're the second in command, fresh off a war. Your captain continually rebuffs you, gets several of your men killed by a cyclops, and you're starving. You find the wind god, and you warn him not to trust the gods so freely. And then after meeting with the wind god, captain gets a bag, and you're told directly from the wind god's winions that there's treasure in the bag. You're tired. You're far from home. You're almost out of food. That treasure could buy you some serious supplies, or even just give your men enough hope to keep going, but the captain refuses to share it. If the captain is so insistent that he can reason with the gods, then surely the winions aren't lying about there being treasure, right? You start getting desperate so you snoop. And it was the storm in the bag. Turns out the gods can't be trusted, and you're correct in your initial assumption. The god of the sea shows up and makes it very clear that he's here to kill everyone because your captain pissed him off. The man you trusted pissed off the sea god and put a target on everyone's backs. You manage to escape after losing most of your fellow men, and get to an island where a witch god turns your men to pigs and you barely escape with your own life. Instead of leaving while you have a reprieve, your captain insists on trying to reason with this god. After the last two gods, you just want to leave, as much as it hurts to leave your friends behind. Your captain gets lucky. You're then dragged to the underworld and forced to listen to everyone you fought beside lament over their deaths. Captain speaks to the prophet, but doesn't tell you what the prophet says. He continues not to tell you his plans. You feel guilty for your own role in losing so many men, so you try to finally apologize like you've been trying to do since escaping the sea god. Your captain then uses his plan to try and get you killed, killing 6 of your remaining friends. You had no idea this was the plan until you make it out. You ask for an explanation. You need to be told the reason why at this point. You've all been through so much. The crew is looking to you wanting answers. Your captain can't give you any. You're all tired. Sore. Starving. Far from home. Your captain doesn't seem to care. You mutiny. You find an island with cattle. You're tired. You're starving. Your captain keeps insisting "I need to get home" before "we need to get home". You're then faced with the king of the gods for killing sacred cattle. And the king of the gods tells your captain to choose who lives or dies. And not only does he choose you (which would be understandable given the situation), but his REASON for choosing you isn't "you committed a crime against the gods". It's "I need to see my wife." He couldn't care less about the fact that your actions offended the gods, that you mutinied, that you both betrayed each other. He gave up on you and the crew a long while ago.
I might not agree with all of his own choices, but I can see how Eurylochus ended up in the situation that he did. His fate was sealed the moment the war ended. And now that we're almost three months out from Thunder Saga, the rest of the fandom seems to see that too (then they're not busy thirsting over him).
So why did the fandom suddenly turn hateful towards him? Why be angry at him? He's not the only guilty party in this scenario. Where's the anger towards Odysseus for his own failings? He's got plenty of them. Is it because he's the protagonist and voiced by the composer? Or is it because of something else?
Now we're at Vengeance Saga and the Calypso hate is strong. Why is everyone thirsting over Poseidon and giving Circe a pass on her actions? Is it because they're more powerful gods or something else? I'd argue Circe's actions are way worse than Calypso's. Where's her hatedom? Why aren't people hating on Poseidon for his 10 year grudge against Odysseus?
The Truth? It's most likely because of unchecked biases against dark skinned black people.
I wish there was a like button for asks

(NOT SO) LIVE OCEAN SAGA REACTION!!!
This is my favourite saga so be prepared for me to be insufferable.
Storm
Hmm, the trumpets....AAAGH, THOSE VOCALS OHFDRYHDIUFF.
"This storm's our final fight" 😬
STOOOooooooOOOOOOOooooooRM
The wind instruments for Aeolus's islan- wait...wind instruments...wind. Ugh
SKYYYYYYyyyyyyYYYYYYY
Luck Runs Out
I almost never listen to this one 😐
"How many floating islands have you seen?" USE YOUR BRAIN EURYLOCHOS, USE YOUR BRAIN.
Ugh, he called him "friend" when Odysseus had always used "brothers" to refer to the rest of the crew, and the only one who used "friend" was Polites. 😭
POLITES I MISS YOU 😭😭😭
Ok, this pisses me of so much. YOU CAN'T DISAGREE WITH YOUR CAPTAIN/KING IN FRONT OF THE REST OF THE CREW!!!!!!!!! Every song I hear makes me want to fist fight him more.
"I need to talk to you in private" 😊
"What the fuck were you thinking, Eurylochos" 😠
He said "thank you" the same way Polites said it at the end of "Open Arms" I'm AAAAAAAAAA
Keep Your Friends Closed
Oooh, whimsical!
Aeolus is so mischievous, so very :]
WINIONS!
SILLY WINIONS!!!
BAD WINIONS!
Eurylochos, I don't hear you agreeing with your captain, what's that all about? 👀
"Everything's changed since Polites" FUCKING STAB ME JORGE.
(Also it took me that lyric to realize Polites was dead 😬)
OH. OH. FUCKING GREAT. ITHACA WAS WITHIN SIGHT. WITHIN. SIGHT.
"Storm"! "Full Speed Ahead"! (Wait why were the Winions the ones that said full speed ahead?😅 Lmao)
The land of the giants! Laestrygonians mentioned!
I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!! I DO!!!!!!
Ruthlessness
Oh. Oh boi. This song. This song is what got me into EPIC. Everyone say thank you blue eye filter 2021 snippet. I remember being SO PUMPED when I discovered it came out, I actually skipped the three sagas just to get to "Ruthlessness".
Damn those, Jaws shark attack staccato strings!!!!!! And the waves! The waveeeeeess!!!!!!!!
(Fun fact, this is the only song from EPIC I have memorized, backing vocals included)
"It isn't very often that I get pissed off" *loud incorrect buzzer*
So...many...animatic ideas...
Hey, is it just me or did I not hear a 'sorry' in that apology? 🤔
Oooh, we love dramatic irony!!!!
And callbacks!!!!

OK HI. Actual post about this AU!
I call it Aeolus' Apprentice AU, and the basic premise is like. Since Aeolus has quite a few parallels to younger Ody, what if she mentored him instead of Athena?
So obviously this changes some things- I'll go in chronological order to the best of my ability.
To get it out of the way, Odysseus IS still Odysseus. He's very similar to canon if not a bit more immature. So he's not really gonna be the one changing in this AU.
So how they meet is in the same span of time as Warrior of the Mind, but the challenge is different. I like to think that Aeolus sent the winions to go be mischievous and such (like when they tell his crew "its treasure!") and they go to trick Ody but he outsmarts them, prompting Aeolus to reveal herself and from there they become mentor and apprentice.
A note on their relationship, theyre MUCH less mentor & apprentice than snarky siblings most of the time? They have a more lighthearted vibe! Usually! (I'll expand more on this later.)
So ok timeskip to Open Arms as I have not read the Illiad and have no clue what goes on in it nor how Aeolus replacing Athena might impact it
Anyways while Odysseus is less hostile to the winions he is still Wary. He's a bit jumpy and he knows they can be mischievous. Afterwards, Warrior of the Mind is almost entirely cut (I can't find a way to incorporate it..) but Aeolus does pop by to be like. lol i gotta keep you on your toes. You should try some of this lotus though ahahaha slash jay
So then at the end of the Cyclops Saga we get to Remember Me and Aeolus is like. Yikes! You just doxxed yourself Ody! Thats Bad! Like. Its not Athena levels. She Doesnt Leave Yet. But it's made worse because, while its left ambiguous, Aeolus May Or May Not Know that Polyphemus is her brother.
So Keep Your Friends Close has the most changes, being split into two songs. Ocean Saga, broadly, gets the most change actually. It goes Storm -> Keep Your Friends Close (1/2) -> Luck Runs Out -> Keep Your Friends Close (2/2) -> Ruthlessness.
The first KYFC half basically becomes Aeolus giving him the wind bag, saying "You're beginning to make a fool out of yourself, but I'm giving you one more chance. If you can keep this bag closed until you make it home, i like. Wont Leave."
Then Luck Runs Out takes place during the 9 days of Staying Awake (with tweaks ofc)
And the second half is when the bag Opens and its like. A parallel to My Goodbye in some spots. Odysseus starts yelling at her and being like I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS?? And Aeolus reveals that She Cannot Associate With Him Anymore. She knew that the storm was Poseidon's, even if she doesnt tell him.
OK THATS ALL MY THOUGHTS. ITS VERY LONG SORRY. I have some ideas for Wisdom Saga (retitled Wind Saga probably) that I'll probably send out sometime BUT. For Now. Im running away
Send me asks about this if you want, it'll help get my brain gears turning

okokokok :33
-since where i live there is like four months of the year where the wind isnt smacking everyone around (my mom got into an accident once soley on the wind force alone!) we have a joke that hes rlly bad at personal space, like you take two steps back from him and he takes three steps towards you
-i once saw that a symbol of his was a harp somewhere which i dont have the time to fact check but i think the idea of him learning the harp to play to help his winions sleep is rlly cute
-definitely projecting here but a “ruins the holiday” part of the family as in something will happen and he’ll cry and it causes that small uproar of everyone whose older being like “youre ruining it for everyone :/“
-randomly based on vibes but doesnt like being interrupted—like “i was speaking.” staring at you like you just said something awful to him—spent way to long being talked over and is sick of it
-OK SO IDN WHAT IT IS OUTSIDE OF MY HOUSE EVERY WINTER THAT THE WIND BLOWS THROUGH THAT WAKES ME UP AT NIGHT SOUNDING LIKE EITHER SCREAMING OR A KAZOO——buuuutttt, can now safely hc aeolus plays kazoo and yells sometimes instead of just actually making wind as usual for either the sillies, venting his frustrations, or laziness
-cries easily and very intensely—sobs heard all around olympus and aeolia, also yells a lot when upset, then complains about his throat hurting when hes calmed down as if he didnt just banshee scream loud enough to reverberate off of tartarus back to the heavens
-smaller than most of the gods and acts way more childishly and constantly having to defend that hes not to try and get some of the respect hes denied for being perceived as a whining little kid
-the lotus eaters are winions on lotus which has led me to believe he was the one to introduce them—would mellow out on lotus with hermes or apollo probably
-while the winions dont need to be babied sometimes he likes taking care of them like theyre infants for fun—like how a kid takes care of a baby doll but with those silly little creatures instead for comfort
-very embarrassing to be around because he is loud and unaware of that and annoying /pos and just too silly—many such cases, many such cases
-loves fire and has a fireplace hes obsessed with tending too, also loves candles
and more but i have to go to the store with my family and to see my cousins soccor game :3
It's bullying Aeolus hours!!
Did anyone else thought about how lonely Aeolus is on his island? I'm going to assume that he's mentally young and that he naturally needs people around him to develop. But there's no one. No playmates. Only some sailors here and there asking him for wind. Nothing but loneliness, so he ended up creating Winnions from clouds to have some friends (and avoid going insane).
